  • FUSO eCANTER: 89 ALL-ELECTRIC REFUSE COLLECTION VEHICLES TAKE OFF IN ATHENS AND THESSALONIKI

The two largest cities in Greece are taking a significant step towards sustainable urban logistics: Athens and Thessaloniki have ordered a total of 89 all-electric FUSO eCanter vehicles that will take over municipal waste collection in the future. This once again confirms the eCanter as the ideal solution for urban operations, especially where narrow roads, high waste volumes and strict environmental regulations meet.

Quiet, locally emission-free and perfect for narrow urban areas

The FUSO eCanter impresses cities and municipalities above all with its compactness and high payload. Its electric drive technology enables locally emission-free and significantly quieter waste collection, which is a major advantage, especially in densely populated neighbourhoods – for example, for operations in the early morning hours. “Thanks to its compact dimensions and high chassis load-bearing capacity, the eCanter is ideal for waste disposal companies in narrow streets,” emphasises Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing & Customer Services at FUSO Europe.

Specialised KAOUSSIS bodies for maximum efficiency

For the Greek cities, the eCanter was equipped with a specially developed body from the local manufacturer KAOUSSIS. These are, among others:

• Rotary drum technology with 4 m³ volume and 4:1 compaction rate
• Acoustic canopy for particularly quiet operation
• Compatible lift system (80-390 litre container) incl. RFID and dynamic weighing system
• Integrated container washing system for automatic cleaning with every emptying

The technology is specially designed for use with electric vehicles, including proportionally controlled electrohydraulic systems. This means that the vehicles fully comply with the technical specifications for collection vehicles with accompanying personnel.

Electric performance that impresses in everyday life

The fleet ordered includes models with 82.6 kWh battery and a range of up to 140 km – ideal for municipal collection routes in urban areas. The first 40 vehicles are scheduled to go into operation in November and will be delivered in full in the course of the coming year.

A milestone for sustainable waste management in Greece

With 89 new eCanters, Athens and Thessaloniki are setting a strong signal for climate-friendly mobility. Less noise, lower emissions and an efficient vehicle architecture make the eCanter a future benchmark for municipal waste disposal in Europe.

The initiative shows: Electric commercial vehicles are no longer the future – they are already actively shaping more liveable cities.
